I kinda wanted to get rid of the defensive players for a couple years now, but it seems to be ingrained tradition at this point.

The original version of this league that I inherited from...someone who I can't remember now (older B8 guy...maybe Wigs?) had 8 defensive players, and I cut that down in half immediately because that always annoyed me.

The audiobooks narrated by Roy Dotrice are the ones people are talking about, right? Maybe I'll try out the first one after all.

Yep! Those are the ones I listened to and I thought they were very solid. I would imagine it would be hard for someone with no exposure to the series to keep up with so many names flying around, but if you watched the show you should be ok I think.

Of course, you lose out on the whole "wait who the hell is that guy - I need to flip to the back of the book to cross reference this again" thing, but you might be ok regardless since you've already got a good working knowledge of most of the big characters at least.

Question- Should I play Telltale's Game of Thrones?

I thought it was ok, and I say that as a rabid Game of Thrones enthusiast that loves the books.

There were definitely a couple parts that I really wanted to keep playing through, and overall the story was fairly interesting I thought.

The problems were:
1) Your decisions honestly don't matter all that much outside of some big ones near the end (I feel like this describes most Telltale games though)
2) It almost feels like fan fiction - there's this important family in the North that gets mentioned like one time? It almost felt like something you'd read on a fan fiction site were the author inserts their own VERY SPECIAL AND INTERESTING FAMILY into a narrative as haphazardly as they can
3) People from the show feel out of place and take some of the drama away. You know certain things can't happen because well, duh, that character has a specific arc in the show the can't interfere with.

I would've liked it a lot more if it occurred in the Game of Thrones universe, but happened in some unexplored time period before the show and books take place. A lot of lore there that could be fun to dive into.

Still, like foolmo said, there are worse ways to spend your time. I didn't hate it and I enjoyed it enough so maybe you will too (if you're able to overlook a couple of the stupider plot points). It is probably the worst Telltale game I've played though. Not awful. Just kind of "eh that was pretty okay".

Somewhere in the books, I vaguely remember them referencing the white walkers essentially freezing some major river in Essos the last long night when they tried to invade.

I had this idea in my head where they just sort of freeze a little bit of the water around Eas(femalegenitaliaslang)ch and then walk around while the Night's Watch look down from the top of the wall and shake their fists.

I know its likely fresh water vs sea water and all that, but they're magical ice demons that bring extreme cold. It wouldn't have been any dumber than the Dornish subplot tbqh.

There is at least one though! It's just nobody cares about him so no one actually knows his name.

The "your people don't know how to fight" guy who has like one line an episode. He was in last season, too. No idea what is name is though.

And in the books there are also a handful of named Dothraki left that have been with Dany for some time. It's just that no one cares about them either.

I still don't think this was a bad season, but I thought the first four episodes were great and the last three were a good deal weaker because of how rushed everything was (Finale was pretty ok though! Some great parts, some not so great parts). I think if they just kept the standard 10 episode season, I would've enjoyed this significantly more.

I mean, kind of. Killing Littlefinger like season 4 would've been a huge death.

This season it didn't really feel like it. His role has been ill defined for a couple seasons now, he wasn't the big antagonist, Sansa repeatedly said she didn't trust and knew better...it just kind of felt perfunctory I guess. At this point in the story, it's more like, "oh yeah, of course Littlefinger gets killed, where else could this be going".

Bronn absolutely could have been killed off though, but he's a fan favorite so he also seems to be invulnerable until the end game.

The season was very light on big deaths, surprisingly. Only one I'd really count is Lady Olenna. Dany's least favorite dragon, too, I suppose, but that was one that everyone saw coming because it basically had to happen.

Tormund is not dead, and he has a lot of plot armor because he can't be replaced. Early seasons (and the book) are good because there are so many damn characters when one dies, their role can still be fulfilled.

Tormund is effectively the last of the wildlings outside of Gilly. Sure, there were scrubs with him at the wall, but all the named wildlings are dead and have been dead for some time. If Tormund dies, then Jon's whole martyrdom of letting the wildlings in doesn't mean anything because they just all died anyway. They are also gearing up for the big battle to be "everyone" vs the undead (outside of Cersei). They need a wildling contingent there for that to occur, and they aren't going to be like "wow look at all these people, you have a Lannister, Starks, Greyjoys, Targaryens, uh this random wildling extra we found, the Vale, etc all fighting together!".

Once they stopped giving us extra wildling characters to meet and talk to, Tormund has been basically untouchable.

I think it would be hard to go from anti-Trump to pro-Trump as he's essentially been what was expected but worse.

Both Corrik and Extha have been "uhh this is not what I expected" at times. Besides Ulti, these are really the only two pro-Trump people I can really think of tbqh, though.

MWC doesn't count because he is not a real person. All the other conservative posters here are not what I would consider to be "pro Trump".
